MARC ALBRECHT

Marc Albrecht’s work as a conductor has led him to many of the most renowned concert venues and orchestras in the world, among them the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, La Scala in Milan, the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the San Francisco Opera as well as the Orchestre de Paris, the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia Orchestra, Rome and the NHK Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo.

As chief conductor of Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam, the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra and the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra, he has built a reputation as one of today’s most interesting and versatile opera conductors. Albrecht is particularly well known for his masterful interpretations of late Romantic German and Austrian repertoire ranging from Wagner to Strauss, Zemlinsky, Schreker and Korngold.

He started his career as Claudio Abbado’s assistant, and has held positions as principal conductor at the Semperoper Dresden, music director at the Staatstheater Darmstadt as well as artistic director and chief conductor of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg. Prior to this production of Das Wunder der Heliane, Albrecht has conducted new productions at the Deutsche Oper Berlin of Messiaen’s Saint François d’Assise, Strauss’s Salome, Janacek’s The Makropulos Case and Debussy’s Pelléas et Mélisande.
