MARGARITA GRITSKOVA

Multi-award-winning Russian mezzo-soprano Margarita Gritskova is one of the leading singers of her generation. Since 2012 she has been a member of the ensemble at the Vienna State Opera. With her performance at the Vienna Opera Ball in February 2014, Gritskova caught the attention of an even larger international audience thanks to the worldwide television broadcast.

She has appeared under the batons of Riccardo Muti, Alain Altinoglu and Mariss Jansons, and guest appearances have taken her to leading opera houses and festivals around the world. She has also appeared internationally in concert with Jose Carreras.

Gritskova was born in Saint Petersburg and studied at the State Conservatory of her hometown. Nelly Lee sparked Gritskovas’s love for chamber music, to which she has devoted special attention ever since.

She has given recitals at the Vienna Musikverein, Rossini in Wildbad and the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro. In 2017 she gave a series of recitals with pianist Maria Prinz in Sofia, Bulgaria and at the Russian Cultural Institute in Vienna, subsequently releasing an album, Russian Songs, based on this programme (Naxos 8.573908). In 2020 she will make her debut at the Theatre des Champs-Elysees, Paris.
