Born in Japan in 1987, Mari Sato started piano lessons when she was five and continued with Atsuko Okada at the Tokyo State University for Visual Arts and Music. From 2007 she studied at the Vienna University for Music and the Performing Arts with Avedis Kouyoumdjian, and graduated with distinction and a special prize. She held the 2013/2014 Japanese Rohm Musik Foundation Scholarship. With prizes in national and international contests, she has appeared as a soloist and in chamber music in Austria, Germany and Japan. In 2012 she took first prize for piano at the Pörtschach International Johannes Brahms Competition and in 2014 the first Duo Prize at the Schwerin International Interpretation Competition for Proscribed Music.
