MUSICA VIVA CHAMBER ORCHESTRA
The Moscow Chamber Orchestra Musica Viva is a unique ensemble with a distinguished history and has gained particular renown for its historically authentic performances of musical works of different eras, performing works by western European composers of the baroque and classical eras previously unknown to Russian audiences. It has given special attention to operas and oratorios, performed with the participation of highly regarded and experienced foreign singers and conductors, among them the English conductors Christopher Hogwood and Roger Norrington. In 2000 Musica Viva initiated an international annual chamber music festival, Dedication, to which it invites well-known performers from throughout the world, traditionally held in the Tretyakov Gallery. In 2008, Musica Viva was designated a State Cultural Organisation of Moscow. In 2009 the orchestra received one of the special grants bestowed by the government of the Russian federation on leading musical ensembles. Musica Viva has made an extensive series of recordings.
