Nino Gvetadze was born in Georgia. She studied piano in Tbilisi and at the Conservatories in The Hague and Amsterdam. Gvetadze has achieved notable competition success, having garnered second prize, the Press Prize and the Audience Award at the International Franz Liszt Piano Competition in 2008, and the Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award in 2010. She has appeared with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic, Munich Sinfonia, Kammerakademie Potsdam, the Seoul Philharmonic and numerous other orchestras and has given recitals and festival performances in venues as elite as Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, the Konzerthaus Berlin, Tokyo’s Bunka Kaikan hall, the Lucerne Piano Festival, Spoleto Festival, Kuhmo Festival, Piano Jacobin and many more. She was featured in the BBC4 documentary “The Story of Music”, and performed live on Dutch National television playing instruments owned by Hector Berlioz and Vladimir Horowitz.
Nino Gvetadze has made four solo recordings: piano works by Mussorgsky (Brilliant Classics); Rachmaninov’s Preludes, Opp 23 and 32 (Etcetera); and Debussy and ‘Widmung’ (Liszt piano works) on the Orchid Classics label. BBC Music Magazine praised her “meditative intelligence” and “Paderewskian sense of rubato” and the Debussy album was Editor’s Choice in International Record Review.
