The conductor of Concerto Campestre, Pedro Castro, was born in 1977 in Porto, Portugal, and graduated at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa with Pedro Couto Soares and at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, Holland, with Sébastien Marq (recorder) and Ku Ebbinge (historical oboes). He plays with several orchestras and early music ensembles in the main artistic centres of Europe. In October 2010 he conducted the modern première of the Serenata L’Angelica by João de Sousa Carvalho and in 2012 Gluck’s Paride ed Elena. As a soloist he has performed with the Capela Real, Divino Sospiro and Orquestra Barroca Casa da Música, playing concertos by Vivaldi, Telemann, Marcello and J.S. Bach. He also collaborates with 7 lágrimas with whom he has recorded and toured extensively. His main academic research and PhD dissertation is focused on the tradition of the court serenata in Lisbon at the time of Queen Maria I.
