The Santiago Philharmonic Orchestra (Orquesta Filarmónica de Santiago), which was founded in 1955, is the resident ensemble of the Teatro Municipal de Santiago. During the year the orchestra divides its busy calendar between ballet, opera, and symphonic concerts, with a repertoire that ranges from baroque to contemporary. It also regularly performs free concerts in churches and public spaces. During its existence the orchestra has accompanied distinguished soloists, such as Plácido Domingo, Martha Argerich, Claudio Arrau, Narciso Yepes, Mstislav Rostropovich, Andrés Segovia, Jean-Philippe Collard, and Gil Shaham. The orchestra’s music directors have included Juan Pablo Izquierdo, Roberto Abbado, Maximiano Valdés, Gabor Ötvos, and Jan Latham-Koenig. Its current music director is Konstantin Chudovsky.
