Sebastián Mariné studied piano, composition and conducting at the Madrid Royal Conservatory of Music (RCSMM), leaving with the academic distinction award for piano. He also holds a doctoral degree in art history from Madrid Autónoma University. Sebastián Mariné has given recitals in Europe, America and Asia, and is the accompanying pianist with the Sonor Ensemble. He has performed the premieres of piano concertos by Spanish composers including Rafael Cavestany.
Sebastián Mariné has recorded his own compositions for piano as well as works by other composers including Pedro Iturralde and Antón García Abril. He has written more than 90 works which have been performed by prestigious soloists, orchestras and ensembles, and has had numerous pieces commissioned by organisations including the Granada Music and Dance Festival. Sebastián Mariné has won several competitions, including first prize in the the Community of Madrid ‘Religious Polyphony’ and Fernando Rielo International Sacred Music competitions, and has also been warded the Culture Viva Claudio Prieto award and the Reina Sofia School of Music Medal of Honour. He is the president of the Madrid Composers Association (AMCC) and organiser of the Madrid Contemporary Music Festival (COMA). Sebastián Mariné has been a faculty member of the RCSMM since 1979 and the Reina Sofía School of Music since 1991.
