SERGEY TESLYA

Sergey Teslya was born in Novosibirsk, Russia. He began his studies with Galina Turchaninova, and in 1977 was awarded a diploma in the competition for Russian violinists in Kazan, and in 1979 First Prize at the International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition in Poland. In 1980 he continued his studies in Kiev with Olga Parkhomenko, a former student of David Oistrakh. Between 1982 and 1986 he completed his studies at the Gnessin State Musical College in Moscow with Valentin Berlinsky and Vladimir Spivakov.

In 1986 he won First Prize in the International Competition of the Academy of Musical Art of Tours, in France. In the same year he began his professional career as a member of the Moscow Virtuosi, a chamber orchestra with whom he toured Asia, North America, South America and Europe, performing in prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, New York, the Teatro Colón, Buenos Aires and the Royal Albert Hall, London.

In 1990 he moved to Spain with Moscow Virtuosi. From 1994 to 2002 he held the position of concertmaster of the Royal Seville Symphony Orchestra. In 1998 he created the Chamber Orchestra of the Royal Symphony Orchestra of Seville, and as artistic director and soloist, presents a wide repertoire ranging from the 17th century to contemporary works. Since March 2002 he has been the concertmaster of the Spanish National Orchestra. He is currently a professor at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía.
