Stefan Welsch studied with Professor Buck at the Staatlichen Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart) State University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart, Germany, and also with Professor von Bülow at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Rostock (University of Music and Theatre Rostock) where he graduated with distinction for his graduate recital.
Early in his career, Stefan Welsch followed his passion for teaching. From 1997 to 2000 he was lecturer and assistant to Professor Gert von Bülow at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Rostock (University of Music and Theatre Rostock). Since 1999 he has been an instructor for cello at the Akademie für Tonkunst Darmstadt (Academy of Music Darmstadt, Germany). In 2005 he was also given an appointment as an instructor for cello at the Landesmusikgymnasium Rheinland-Pfalz (Rhineland-Palatinate Secondary School for Music, Germany).
In addition, Stefan Welsch is a sought-after soloist as well as player in chamber music groups and has given concerts in several European countries including Germany, France, Spain and Denmark.
As well as being a cellist, since 2001, Stefan Welsch has been a teacher, and since 2016 a teacher trainer of the Alexander Technique (ITM). He teaches this, among other places, at the Hochschulen für Musik Köln und Mannheim (Universities of Music in Cologne and Mannheim, Germany) as well as at the Akademie für Tonkunst Darmstadt (Academy of Music Darmstadt, Germany).
In 2018 the cellist Stefan Welsch joined Katharina Wimmer and Ingrid Wendel expanding their duoW into the trioW.
