STEVEN SLOANE

Israeli-American conductor Steven Sloane is a versatile and dedicated musician. A student of Eugene Ormandy, Franco Ferrara and Gary Bertini, he served as music director of the Spoleto Festival USA and of Opera North in Leeds, UK. He also served as music director of the American Composers Orchestra and principal conductor of the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra (2007–13).

Sloane is a frequent guest with prestigious orchestras, including the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the San Francisco Symphony, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, the Sydney Symphony, the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonia Orchestra, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, the Orchestra del Teatro Comunale di Bologna and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

As the long-term general music director of the Bochum Symphony Orchestra, Steven Sloane pushed forward the financing and the building of the orchestra’s own music centre, the Anneliese Brost Musikforum Ruhr. Following its celebrated first season in the new hall, the conductor and his orchestra are looking forward to a promising second season with a focus on Beethoven, including a performance of the Missa solemnis as part of the Ruhrtriennale.
