Mezzo-soprano Tanja Ariane Baumgartner enjoys a distinguished international reputation. Her recent appearances include Fricka in Das Rheingold and Die Walküre in 2017 at the Bayreuth Festival and at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Cassandre in Les Troyens at Oper Frankfurt, her debut as Ortrud in Lohengrin at the Staatsoper Hamburg and Agave in The Bassarids at the Salzburg Festival in 2018.

She performs at her home opera house, Oper Frankfurt, and also appears internationally in venues in Antwerp, Santiago de Chile, Hamburg, Geneva, Toronto, Vienna, Berlin, London and Zürich among others.

She has sung the major roles for her voice, including Kundry (Parsifal), Brangäne (Tristan und Isolde), Amneris (Aida), Amme (Die Frau ohne Schatten), Preziosilla (La forza del destino), Eboli (Don Carlo), Azucena (Il trovatore), Küsterin (Jenůfa), Judith (Herzog Blaubarts Burg), the title role in Carmen, and Charlotte (Werther). She has appeared in the concert hall with distinguished conductors.

She first trained as a violinist at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg, undertaking vocal studies in Karlsruhe, Vienna, Sofia and New York.
