Welcome to Naxos Records
Opera fans are enjoying a bumper crop of new Naxos recordings right now. With release dates in July, August and September, they feature composers from Austria, Britain, France, Germany, Iran and Italy.
This month we have Massenet's fairy tale opera Cendrillon on DVD and Blu-ray video, plus a world premiere CD recording of Behzad Abdi's Rumi, recognised as Iran's first national opera.
Last month we released Rossini's Le Comte Ory (again on DVD and Blu-ray video) together with the first recording of a rarity by Peter von Lindpaintner, Il vespro siciliano.
And in September, opera buffs have another pair of works to look forward to: Handel's Agrippina (on DVD and Blu-ray video), plus a further offering of Rossini, a CD recording of his Aureliano in Palmira.
And it doesn't end there, with more exciting releases in the opera pipeline before the year is out. The line-up includes works by Abdi, Berg, Britten, Korngold, Puccini and Verdi, plus the much anticipated final instalment in Naxos' acclaimed Wagner Ring Cycle - Götterdämmerung. We recommend you keep your eyes peeled and your ears attuned!

Jules Massenet’s fairy-tale opera Cendrillon (‘Cinderella’) was an immediate success at its premiere in 1899 at the Opéra-Comique in Paris. Massenet, then at the height of his powers, creates a magical sound-world full of wit, enchantment and perfumed elegance to match librettist Henri Cain’s coming-of-age adaptation of this classic fairy tale. The colourful fantasy world created by the acclaimed stage director Barbrara Mundel and set designer Olga Motta features the British-Swiss soprano, Kim-Lillian Strebel, in her critically acclaimed title role.
