The results of this year’s Bachtrack poll to find the “World’s Favourite Orchestra” were announced on 6 October, with Naxos artist JoAnn Falletta and the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra (BPO) taking third place, up from seventh in last year’s survey.
“I know that this result is so much due to the orchestra’s recordings for Naxos,” said Falletta, the BPO’s music director for the past 15 years, who confidently aspires to the top slot in next year’s poll.
Recent additions to their extensive discography on the Naxos label include last month’s release of works by Béla Bartók, which has already drawn critical appreciation. Among the plaudits: “…this is not only an invaluable and entertaining album, but also one that adds to the growing body of evidence that JoAnn Falletta and the Buffalo Philharmonic are among the most exciting musical partnerships anywhere today.” (Fanfare)
