The Deutsche Phono-Akademie (the cultural institute of the German music industry’s federal association) has announced this year’s Echo Klassik award-winners yesterday. Germany’s most important classical music awards went to 61 winners from 21 categories. The Casal Quartet were able to use a whole set of original instruments crafted about 360 years ago by the famous luthier Jacobus Stainer for their award-winning CD. The sound of these instruments was considered ideal until the early 19th century.
‘We are delighted—it’s been the first Echo for Solo Musica!’ says Hubert Haas, founder of the label.
The presentation of the awards will take place at the Philharmonie Essen on 17 October 2010. The German TV channel ZDF will broadcast the event live (10 p.m.) under the title Echo der Stars.
The Casal Quartet has also released an album Tango Sensations featuring 15 of Astor Piazzolla’s famous works (Solo Musica SM106).
